Soil surveys

The City of Kuopio orders soil surveys only for its own projects, such as urban and street planning. The results of the conducted soil surveys have been recorded in the city’s soil survey database since the late 1980s.  

No plot-specific soil surveys are carried out by the city, as their commissioning is the responsibility of the future operator or developer of the plot. However, the results recorded in the soil survey database by the city are also disclosed to the builders. The survey results are useful in selecting the plot and planning the construction project.  

The database currently has more than 52,000 research points for individual drillings, ground sampling points and groundwater observation pipes. In addtion soil maps and constructionability maps have been prepared for planning data for some areas.
