Welcome to comprehensive school
All children permanently resident in Finland are subject to compulsory education and have a right to free basic education. Compulsory education starts in the year in which the child turns seven and ends when they turn 18, or earlier if they complete a secondary qualification (matriculation examination or a vocational qualification), or a similar education abroad.
Basic education schools offer general education, the scope of which is nine years. All pupils who complete basic education have the same eligibility for further studies. The goal of basic education is to support pupils’ growth into humanity and ethically responsible membership in society and to provide them with knowledge and skills necessary in life.
