Vehmeri nature trail
The Vehmer trail journeys through the scenery of the parish villages in Vehmersalmi, allowing hikers to experience local nature just on the edge of the village. The start of the trail is the parking area at the parish village cemetery, where you can find a noticeboard of the area and its nature. The Vehmer trail runs on land owned by private landowners with whom the city has built the trail and its related facilities in agreement.
The 4.3-kilometre-long trail takes you through a landscape of pine forests along paths and on the side of the road. From the parish village of Vehmersalmi to the end of the road called Rantarinne, where the Luukaarre lean-to-shelter is located, a more than a kilometre-long section of the trail passes through beautiful lakeside scenery with nature trail displays alongside it. The displays offer hikers information on traces of the Ice Age, the changing forestry, and the inhabitants of the woods.
The lean-to-shelter is equipped with a woodshed, waste point, toilets and an information display. The Rahkamäentie road, which passes the lean-to-shelter, is a private road. However, the road’s parking area can be used by people with reduced mobility visiting the lean-to-shelter. The lean-to-shelter also serves as a rest stop for skiers and snowmobilists.
