Old mine lean-to
In a wonderful location on the shore of a pond shaped by an old quartzite quarry, hikers, mountain bikers and cross-country skiers can use a spacious shed and an outdoor table with benches. In addition, there is Tahko Safari’s private log cabin at the rest stop. The quartzite mine was in operation from 1940 to 1948, when it produced white quartzite sand and gravel. About 40,000 tons of sand were transported to the porcelain factory before the mine was closed. What remained was quite a hole, which was filled with clear water.
