Katiskaniemi nature trail
On the Katiskaniemi nature trail, you can marvel at the beautiful herb-rich forests and impressive pine woods of the rocky landscape. The trail mostly traverses nature conservation areas, starting behind the Rauhalahti Spa Hotel and following the Katiskaniemi cape before returning to the starting point. The trail is a couple of kilometres long and waymarked with paint and signposts.
The Katiskaniemi trail features herb-rich forests and their vegetation and fauna, including animals and plants living on the shores and in the water. The old aspen stands and alder woods are home to e.g. the flying squirrel and the lesser spotted woodpecker. Human presence can be seen in the old Jätkänkämppä logging hut and the traditional grazing landscapes. Between 1999 and 2003, management work was carried out in the nature conservation area; spruce trees were removed from the groves and decayed wood was added. Herb-rich forests and rocky pine woods are poorly resistant to erosion, which is why visitors to the area should stay on the paths.
