The first bike garage opens in Kuopio

Kuopio’s first bicycle garage will open in Lukkaripuisto Park, at the corner of Käsityökatu and Kirjastokatu streets, on Thursday 13.2.2025 at 9 a.m. The garage is a supervised bicycle parking area with spaces for 90 bikes. Four of the spaces are for special bikes. The garage has a charging locker with 8 charging points for electric bicycle batteries. Outside there is a service point.

You can try out the garage free of charge until 31 August 2025. After this period, parking will be subject to a charge. It is proposed to the city planning committee that the charge should be eight euros per month. The committee will discuss the matter at its meeting on 12 February 2025.

The user of the bicycle garage will have to use the Moovy application to access the garage. Once the user has redeemed his access, he will receive a personal PIN code which will allow him to enter the garage. The Moovy redemption also applies to the free trial period during spring and summer.

How to use the bike garage

  • Download the Moovy app from the app store on your mobile phone.
  • Register as an app user.
  • From the app menu, select shop, choose Kuopio as your city, then Kuopio Lukkarinpuisto bike garage from the menu.
  • Read and accept the terms and conditions.
  • You will receive your personal pin code within 24 hours by email (weekdays).
  • The pin code must not be given to another person! The misuse will be notified once, after which the contract will be terminated immediately without compensation.
  • The cancellation period is one (1) full calendar month, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.

The construction of the Kuopio Lukkarinpuisto bike garage is part of a larger project to develop cycle parking in Kuopio city centre and has received investment support for walking and cycling from Traficom. The project also includes cycle parking facilities for Vuorikatu and Haapaniemenkatu streets and three portable cycle parking stands. A total of 156 new cycle parking spaces were created in Kuopio.
