Mölymäki sports fields, playground and outdoor gym open to the public

Sport fields, playground and outdoor gym at Mölymäki opened to the public on 12.9.2024. In the centre of Mölymäki Park there is a new football pitch, two tennis courts and a basketball pitch, which will be replaced by a rink in winter. There is also an outdoor gym next to the pitch.

The Mölymäenpark playground has also been completed and put into use. Park areas have also been finished around the pitch. A public toilet in Mölymäki Park will be open to visitors next spring.

The contractor for the project is Valicon Oy, on behalf of the City of Kuopio. Construction started in June 2023.

The site was built using concrete rubble from the adjacent demolished Vocational College structures. BioFlex has been used as a filler for the football pitch surface. Other artificial grass football pitches in Kuopio are filled with rubber ash, which will be banned for use on artificial grass pitches in eight years’ time.
