In addition to traditional baroque music and period instruments, BarokkiKuopio will feature the brightest in electroacoustic music – improvisations, premieres and the debut of a new electric piano chord.

BarokkiKuopio will take place on 17-21 July with the theme Electric / Spark. The programme is brilliantly varied, offering audiences baroque music’s melodious sounds, shimmering virtuosity, inner glow, electrifying improvisations and lightning-fast reactions.

The programme will culminate on Sunday 21 July with a concert by Ensemble Nylandia, starring Canadian soprano Rachel Fenlon and conducted by Matias Häkkinen, which will plunge into the glorious world of Rameau and Handel’s baroque operas.

Fenlon will also perform as a solo artist on Friday 19 July, with the Finnish premiere of the song cycle Sing nature alive from my insides, composed for Fenlon by Matthias McIntire. The work combines song, piano music and live electronics in a unique way.

On Saturday 20 July, we will hear an electric piano chord designed by top acoustics expert Jonte Knif. The world’s most advanced electro-acoustic clavichord will be heard in Kuopio for the first time in the world.
