Luola opens in August – but how to get there?
Savilahti sports and events centre Luola opens in August. The centre, excavated from a former Defence Forces cave deposit, will include stunning, multi-purpose facilities for sports and events, as well as shelter for around 7,000 residents of the area. The aim is to attract between 300 000 and 350 000 visitors to Luola each year.
Luola can be accessed in a variety of ways
Savilahti area promotes smart mobility and easy access to Luola by walking, cycling and public transport.
There are 150 bike parking lots in front of Luola, some of which are under a roof – and in August, a new Vilkku city bikes parking station will open in Luola. Buses 31, 32 and 35 will run to Sarastuskaari in Savilahti. Public transport connections and timetables can be found in the route guide: Reittiopas Kuopio (digitransit.fi)
Car-sharing is preferred when travelling by car. Drop-off and pick-up near Luola is at the end of Loistekatu Street.
Parking is easy in the parking facilities in the area
For parking, the preferred locations are the paid parking facilities in the area. You can park your car, for example, in the P-Sarastuskaari, which is open 24 hours a day. In addition, there may be parking space available, particularly in the evenings and at weekends, at the Novapolis and possibly also at the KYS Hospital car parks. During major events, you can also park your car under the Market Square or other city centre facilities, from where you can easily continue to Savilahti by bus or city bike.
Temporary parking areas for short-term parking
Around 100 temporary parking lots are planned near Luola for short-term use. The parking fee can only be paid via a mobile app. The temporary parking areas will be removed as the construction of Savilahti progresses.
