Police is involved in the control of fishing permits in North Savo. City of Kuopio, Metsähallitus and and fishing districts are also involved.

The control covers fish catching regulations, closed seasons and areas, and that fishermen have paid their fishing fees and other necessary permits.

Who has to pay the fishing fee?

If you are aged between 18 and 69 and fish with lures or gear or crayfish, you have to pay a fishing fee. An exception is made for fishermen who will reach the age of 65 by 31 December 2023.

Those who have paid the fishing fee and aged under 18 and over 69 are entitled to fish with a single rod and lure throughout the country, except in rapids and streams in migratory fishing areas and in areas where fishing is prohibited by other regulations.

You can pay the fishing fee at the online shop for special permits

Gear must be properly marked and shipping lanes taken into account

Correct marking of gears ensures smooth navigation. Particular attention must be paid to the use of gears especially in shipping lanes, which can be very wide. You can check the shipping lanes on a sea map.

In the event of an overrun, the person setting the gear is in principle responsible for any damage caused by an incorrectly marked or misplaced gear.

For information on how to mark fishing gear, see Marking of fishing gear – Ahven.net

Fishery fees help to manage fishing waters

The funds collected through the fisheries fees are used to manage fish waters and also contribute to the annual compensation paid to the owners of fish waters.

Not paying the fees can result in a penalty payment of €100 and possible forfeiture of fishing gear and equipment to the state. It is also possible to lose the catches you have taken to the state.
